Brigits eve

The Crucifixion of Daddy

He was guilty of being too protective.
He lived in constant fear which gripped his days and nights.
The fear of losing control.  The fear of becoming unimportant.
The fear that his feral and panicked foresight would be ignored.
Like the boy who cried wolf when the wolf was really coming.
Like the blaring horn of a freight train that is ignored by the people on the tracks.
He hated society and the seductive message it gave his children.
He lived his life as a puritan.  Never showing you the pain of a drug addicted parent.  Never letting you see the alcoholic that lived inside of him.
He walked a narrow and lonely path.
But his heart was locked away from you.  His own pain rarely allowed him to show you the oceans of love he had for you.  You were a prisoner to all is fears.

Now, you look inside and taste the pain of your own fears.  You look upon your own children and quietly hate society for the seductive message it gives them.
Of course, you blame the distant and mysterious man who gave you nothing but warnings and coldness.

So, you cancel him.  You heap upon him all the blame for every failure and dark day you were forced to drink down.  He bears all of your "sins" because he lived the puritan life that you refuse to live.  He is the fitting sacrifice that promises to bring a brighter day in his absence.  So, you Crucified Daddy.

May this scape goat bring you joy and prosperity.

How much better will life be when there is finally no one to blame but yourself?

Dark Empath

9 Warning Signs of a Dark Empath (And All You Need to Know)
What if the narcissist and the empath are the same person? In this article we will talk about nine signs of a Dark Empath.
The narcissist-empath connection is frequently trod ground in popular articles and blogs. It is believed that selfish narcissists and sensitive empaths are deeply attracted to one another.
Empaths seek to save the narcissists while narcissists seek to use the empath for their own ends. It’s a vicious cycle that often leaves empathic individuals heartbroken and depleted.
Yet, there is a personality that combines the selfish traits of the narcissist with the emotional intelligence of the empath.
This type of person is known as a Dark Empath.
What Is a Dark Empath?
Research has revealed that the personality type of the dark empath has the dark triad of traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic
 tendencies.
Yet, Dark Empaths balance these traits with empathy for others and a self-awareness of their tendencies. This is a dangerous combination with a strong potential for manipulation.
What Are the Signs Someone Is a Dark Empath?
Dark Empaths are more adaptive than their narcissist counterparts — and much harder to identify. They blend into society easily and skate through life on their charm.
What follows are a few signs someone might be a Dark Empath.
1. They display heightened sensitivity
Narcissists are often well-versed in how to portray emotional sensitivity, and yet they possess a coldness beneath the surface. They can mimic emotions but not feel them.

Dark Empaths, however, actually possess heightened sensitivity. Their emotional intelligence is on par with fellow empaths.

Why, then, are they considered Dark Empaths as opposed to Empaths?

They have the full range of empathic emotions and an ability to experience the emotions of others — although experts are unsure if their emotional intelligence is cognitive, affective, or a combination of the two.

The key difference is how they use emotions.

Dark Empaths have real feelings but use their Dark Triad traits to manipulate others.

In fact, their very understanding of how other people feel makes it even easier for them to exercise control in their relationships.
2. Relationships revolve around their wants and needs
Dark Empaths’ highly manipulative and controlling nature often manifests in more subtle ways.

Take note: a relationship with one will likely revolve around their wants and needs to the exclusion of their partner’s.

If it seems that all “compromises” are stacked in their favor, it’s possible that they could be demonstrating the narcissistic side of their personality.

This side of their identity might be dismissed as immaturity when paired with their sensitivity. Some partners may simply lack the relational development to compromise in ways that suit both parties.

Pay attention to how often it happens and how they respond to being called out on any unfairness in the relationship.

If they continue to exert subtle control to keep the relationship in their favor, this might be a sign that they possess Dark Empath traits.
3. They have low self-worth
It’s interesting that a personality with strong narcissism can also display low self-worth. It’s certainly a paradox.

On the one hand, their egos can be enormous. Yet, they tend to need constant validation.

On the other hand, they are self-aware and emotionally intelligent enough to see their own manipulations and to consequently feel as if they are
unworthy of love or healthy relationships.

 A negative self-perception often follows.

Narcissists often display grandiose ideas of themselves, but the Dark Empath will be more likely to have the strong ego paired with a lack of true self-esteem.

Don’t be surprised if they’re the ones who point out their flaws, as they are especially sensitive to them.

This low self-worth could have you dismissing them as being narcissists. Yet, if you pay careful attention, you’ll see that their actions still center their wants and needs in the same selfish way.

While they have the benefit of self-awareness and a conscience, they still possess a larger-than-life ego and sense of entitlement.

 4. They struggle with their mental health
Because Dark Empaths understand the complexities of their own personality, they tend to struggle with anxiety and depression.

Their awareness of a tendency to manipulate and control others can war with their ability to feel and understand others’ emotions.

The balance between the Dark Triad traits and empathy can make it easier for them to make friends and establish relationships, but it can also make it harder to maintain them.

Keep in mind that although Dark Empaths are aware of their controlling tendencies, it doesn’t mean they’ll stop using them. Despite their emotional capabilities and self-awareness, they’ll likely continue manipulating others.

They often pair this with self-loathing and a negative self-perception that opens them up to a wide variety of mental health struggles.

 5. They use your feelings against you
Their very sensitivity is what makes the Dark Empath so dangerous. Being able to tune into the emotions of others can be dangerous in the hands of an Empath with a dark side.

They’re likely to be prepared for your emotional reactions and to time their own actions accordingly.

It can leave many of us feel like we’ve been played like a violin — and we can be sure we have when a Dark Empath is involved.

They are skilled at being perfectly charming and getting their way without making a noticeable fuss.

In fact, it’s unlikely most of their victims will even realize they’ve been played for a fool until it’s far too late.

 6. They have a dark sense of humor
Dark Empaths speak fluent sarcasm and tend to have a dark sense of humor. They are sometimes known to bully others or to have fun at someone else’s expense.

While their gallows humor often gets a laugh, it can be particularly cruel to anyone who finds themselves the butt of a Dark Empath’s joke.

Their sense of humor may initially be part of their charm.

Because they can make a cutting remark with a smile or laugh, many may not realize at first the vicious intent. It is often in retrospect that we realize that the joke was on us — never on them.

 7. They are experts at using other people
Dark Empaths are perhaps even more skilled than narcissists at using other people. Because they are sensitive, they know intuitively exactly how to get others to do what they want.

They know exactly what to say and do to stay in control of the situation at all times.

Because the Dark Empath reads people so well, they can sense what others need and play the role that is best suited to getting what they want.

While they have deep emotions, they can lack sincerity when it comes to expressing them to others. Yet, their feeling and charm could mask any manipulation in play.

In fact, their need for control feeds their desire to understand people. Figuring out what makes people tick is essential to using them effectively.

Their people skills are extraordinary. They are capable of plying others with compliments, attention, and charm if it suits them to do so.

Because they see the big picture with all the subtle nuances that shade situations, they can alter their behavior to influence outcomes.

 8. They guilt trip and gaslight you
While compliments and attention can get them far in life, Dark Empaths won’t hesitate to use guilt trips and gaslighting to stay in control.

Their emotional manipulations require that they keep you off balance and unwise to their behind-the-scenes machinations.

If you figure out what they’re doing, they’re more likely to question your sanity in a gaslighting attempt than to admit that you’ve caught them out.

Just as they’ll gaslight you to keep you in line, they’re equally likely to use a guilt trip and prey on your feelings for them.

Dark Empaths often use this strategy when they encounter boundaries in personal relationships.

A little emotional blackmail can go a long way when the Dark Empath is pulling the strings.

 9. They keep an emotional distance
Despite their sensitivity, Dark Empaths are never completely vulnerable with others. They are, in fact, often emotionally unavailable in relationships.

The Dark Empath keeps a certain emotional distanceand disguise what they’re doing with energy and attention as necessary to maintain the status quo.

This can initially be difficult to see, especially when they’ve shown us their low self-worth or mental health struggles.

We may believe that they are being completely open, but most Dark Empaths are unlikely to fully disclose the extent of their control over relationships.

They’d much rather lead with charm, seduction, and more subtle manipulations than to bare their souls to anyone else.

Dark Empaths aren’t as aggressive as others who share Dark Triad traits, but they damage others in their own way.

While they may sometimes see their manipulations as harmless, their ongoing need for control can come with a sense of betrayal when partners discover the inequities in the relationship.

Because they can read the room, they’re capable of adapting to changing emotions — and even showing that they can change.

While their attempts at being on their best behavior can be convincing, you can never be sure if the Dark Empath has changed or is simply evolving to better achieve their own ends.

These personality types can often deplete true empaths at a level on par with pure narcissists. Having to question someone’s sincerity and motives can be exhausting.

Revisiting old lessons

I am back in a depression.

Please understand that it is not always this way.  But, as I have said many times, I tend to blog about it when I am melancholy as a form of therapy.

Of course, this is once again brought on by ongoing struggles with my children.  I have been harping on them to get covid vaccinations, and they present every classic argument not to get it.  I have argued from logic and emotion, but they still refuse.  This time around my youngest daugther laid into me that I never got her the HPV vaccination while she was a teenager.  I was flabberghasted!!  I barely understood HPV ten years ago, much less considered it a threat.  It seemed like just another concern that pharma created to sell product.  Compared to covid which is an existential threat to a large portion of the population.

Naturally, my eldest daughter gleefully jumps into the argument against me.  She thinks she is convincing in such discussions but what she doesnt realize is that she attacks instead of argues, quickly turning into personal attacks.  Which of course escalates into wounded feelings and going beyond what a family should say to one another.  So, I back off from her vicious rapier wit out of fear and self protection.  But it doesnt change the fact that they are avoiding the covid vaccination out of ignorance, and I am prevented from talking reason into them.

It is an ongoing terror to me the thought of seeing my children make mistakes, ones that could very well end their existence, but being powerless to stop it.  It makes me mad, fearful and depressed.  Yet no one sees my good intent and love.

I dont want to be the person that says "I told you so".  So, I will wallow in paralyzing grief and depression.

Someday I will fly and leave all this grief behind me.

The dissolving of fear

Druid Thoughts

There’s a quote from Terry Pratchett witches like to quote:

“A witch ought never to be frightened in the darkest forest, Granny Weatherwax had once told her, because she should be sure in her soul that the most terrifying thing in the forest was her.”

But this is not quite right. Last night traveling through a dark forest I remembered that what it teaches you is there is nothing truly terrifying.

Fear and worry are only ever inside you, and in the darkness of a forest the inside and outside disappear completely.

You become the forest, and the forest becomes you.

And in such a state, nothing can ever truly terrify. Terror requires an Other to be terrified of, and when there is no Other there can be no terror.

So if you are afraid, go walk through a forest at night. Turn off your flashlight and stumble through the dark. And let the terror of what is outside you dissolve into the fierce wholeness of the Other that is also you.

The dull ache of loss.

I miss my dog.  She was my constant and faithful companion.  We could read one another like a neon sign and our love was truly without conditions.

I have shed a river a tears since she died on June 30th.  And I will shed an ocean more before I am done.

I hate this society that devalues the life of an animal.  Hell, we devalue each others lives.  Unless you are fair-skinned, with perfect teeth and wash board abs, you are a waste of protein.

She was so much more than the capacity of most people.

I have no one I can talk to about my grief.  I just want to retreat into the comfortable and consoling dark of night and dance with her shining spirit.

The problem with faith

Faith, is a good thing.  It gives hope to a desperate situation.  It gives endurance to those who suffer.  It grants strength to those who despair.

But, like a slow acting poison, it can destroy those who ingest it too frequently.

What do I mean?  Well, as a Christian I used to place all my faith in God and then wait patiently in sorrow for a thing to occur.  Often, it did not come and I would say "it was Gods will", only to feel disappointed, and unworthy.  Inside I would feel as though my faith was inadequate and that my hopes and dreams are selfish or displeasing to God.

In the end I would be greatly hesitant to ask for anything for fear of the greater pain of being let down.

Then, I woke up to the fact that diety is not all powerful.  That some things are quite beyond their power to change or influence.  The Gods that I embrace now have great love for me and a desire to see me prosper.  In short, they have my back.  But, they can only help me so much.  They are wiser than me and can guess the outcomes of a plan or desire, and they let me know if something will surely fail.

But, the scars of the chains of my old life and old way of thinking often ache with an unforgettable pain.  And so I feel the apprehension and despair of the let down I fear when faced with a situation that is out of my control.

Wisdom tells me that I should not give in to my fear.  That despair is just the negative chains of fear holding me from doing all that I can to strive for a positive outcome.

So, I am left wondering if plain faith is just empty and lifeless without hope, love and effort.  Effort in imagining the outcome that I desire and putting my will and energy towards letting it happen.  Instead of waiting for the light to switch to my favor, I am as a fish swimming with the current but at the same time paddling to the part of it where I want to be carried.

The wisdom of the salmon.

A stroll in the past

I spent an entire evening reading all my blog posts over the past 20 years.  What an eye opening adventure into myself.

I cried reliving old painful memories, and I marveled at my mindset in different phases of my life.  I think everyone should keep a journal of their life and read it often.

Many things have changed with us, and many more have stayed the same.  I still struggle painfully with my eldest daughter.  Her grief and drama cuts me deep to my core, and I feel every bit of her pain.  But, in my longing to be close to her I am easily manipulated and wounded by her.  As of this writing, we are estranged.  But I think about her every single day.

I have walked away and closed the door on several people whom I held great affection for in the past.  One of whom is Emmerikus.  His selfish and callous attitude had driven a wedge between us.  Then, it was revealed to me by two of his children (on separate occasions) that he has had an ongoing sexual relationship with all of his daughters, since the time they were young girls.  Worse yet, it all happened under our noses and we were too blind to see the signs.

I can honestly say I truly hate him and despise everything about him.  I curse the fond memories we shared.  I wish I had never met him, and I look forward to the day that he dies.  I grieve for the innocent girls that I tried to be an uncle to.

That aside...   I feel that I am living a pure and simple life.  I go as far as saying I live a good life.  We are quite blessed.  I want to travel more.  I want to take my wife to France, Rome and Armenia.  I want to visit England.  I know that my desires will come to life because we are working hard to be prosperous.

No more am I waiting for God or the Gods to hand us what we want.  We have to take it ourselves by working for it.  This is perhaps the best and brightest lesson we have learned and one I wish I would have really understood when I started this blog.

Wisdom is truly a wonderous accomplishment.

My work in stone

I am a sculptor, I work in stone.

Before me lies a block of marble.

It is not mine.

It fell off a block of stone that I had shaped in my youth.

I was once a young and nieve scuptor.

I made mistakes.

Mistakes that now result in tears.

But, I have this block in my hands.

It is pure and beautiful.

I fear my mistakes, but I am no longer foolish.

So, I shape it.  Gently working the stone.

Instead of cutting it to my will, I let the stone emerge into it's destiny.

My old hands hold the potential of youth and beauty.

Every day, the work becomes more my own.

Every day, the mistakes I see in my past work becomes lessons.

The borrowed stone shows me that my work is more than the sum of my past.

The stone is glory and greatness.

Greatness in me, and greatness in it.

The crowning lesson is that though I am a grandfather raising his grandson, I am still a father, and he is still my son.

No one under the stars can change that.

My thoughts on the matter

Life has been good for us.  Which is obvious to any reader of this blog since I tend to post when I am down and depressed.  But my present mindset and philosophy has gone a long way to fight back the melancholy.  I love walking the Green Path!

On that note, I have had a recent challenge to my new-found religion/philosophy/mindest.  It comes in the form of a dear friend from my past that is a Fundamentalist Christian.

Before I go on let me say that I am well over being mad at Christianity and Christians.  The gods I serve dont want me to dwell on that, and I find that just giving it up has made me a happier person.  I find that faith is important to a persons sense of purpose and well-being.  Destroying someones faith because you do not agree with it is just wrong, in fact it is evil in my book.  So, I dont want to argue or prothletize.  I just want to enjoy my relationship to the gods, and to the land and let others enjoy their connection.

Of course, my dear friend doesn't feel that way.  In his grey-colored world there is one path, and all others lead to hell.  He regularly comments on any Druidy posts I put up on Facebook or Instagram with a diatribe that basically says to repent or I am going to hell.  He has even sent me photos of himself crying because I have "fallen away from Christ" and I am hurting him.

As I said before, I am over being angry.  But, these comments make me feel angry again.  I try to reply in the most gentle and non-confrontational way as possible.  But, what I want to do is go on the offensive.  I want to lay into him and tell him how wrong and manipulative his religion is.  I want to tell him to wake up to the lies and stop following a god that really doesnt care a lick about him.

But, he is a zealot.  His identity is so entangled with his strict fundamentalist faith that he can never be reasoned with or moved to see anything else.  In short, in order to reach him, I would have to destroy his faith.  To me, that is among the basest things you could do to a person, and I do not want that on my conscience.  Even though he has no qualms about doing it to me.

This lies at the heart of the difference between the book religions and the religion of the earth.  On is a law that must be followed while the other is a path of discovery, a path of the heart.  I just dont think it is healthy to hand someone their belief and motivate them to fidelity through fear.

The heart of the matter

I think what bothers me most in life is that when my eldest daughter says horrible things to me and about me publically, and no one comes to my defense.

The fact that my wife, son and four other daughters say nothing makes me feel like everything that is being said is justified and that I am unworthy of love and respect.

Sometimes I want to just run away and live as a hermit someplace.
